Slapped Takes Take Top Honors At DUAF

Slapped, written by Dr. Mary A. Weems and directed by Ajene D. Washington, took Best Short Play at DUAF. The Downtown Urban Arts Festival took place at The Playhouse Theater at Abrons Art Center in NYC in June.

Slapped tells the story of a Black Lives Matter activist, whose parents are civil rights attorneys and an upper middle-class white woman. They get stuck in an elevator and have a conversation, which reveals how each feels about the state of racism in America.

Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) is a five-week annual multi-disciplinary arts event with cultural offerings in theater, film, music and poetry held during the spring at renowned venues in downtown Manhattan.
